When I first ventured into the world of cloth diapering, I Googled different styles of cloth diapers and their prices. I was bombarded by cloth diaper overload and the thought of cloth diapering seemed a bit unrealistic. I found that all of these rules on top of rules left me feeling overwhelmed, my brain was going "no way!"
My husband suggested that I learn to make them, but after all of the Internet reading I was reluctant to even give that try. Finally my dear friend who was due to give birth and who really wanted to cloth diaper came to me ready to give up. The preparation for it just seemed like too much for her, I could relate with her frustration and since she really wanted cloth diaper I told her that I would learn to make them for her to help her out. With research online and a group on Cafemom Called Sewing Diaper Divas by the time my friend had her baby... not only was I able to cloth diaper her baby, but my baby was in cloth. Looking back I see now that even if you purchase cloth diapers there are many cheaper routes to go. You don't have to break yourself buying $20 or more diapers. I learned that a good prefold and a good diaper cover can go a long way. The process of learning to make them gave me the knowledge in understanding them. What seemed like a bunch of rules makes better sense, all in all it is commonsense.
If you are new to cloth diapering and are looking for cheaper options consider these
Prefolds and Diaper Covers
You can get a great prefold for $2 or less (Gerber prefolds are okay but note that they need to be doubled because they are not as absorbent). Diaper covers can be found for less than $10 per cover.
Shop WHAM
There are many work at home mothers that sell great quality diapers. I have found my best deals on Etsy and Hyena cart.

I have spent so far roughly $70.
